Gorge Waterfalls 50k

Posted on April 16, 2024

On Sunday the 14th, I ran my third 50k trail race. This was up along the Columbia River, just east of Portland about 40 miles or so. It was named the Gorge Waterfalls because you run past several waterfalls! I’d have to say that this race was by far the most challenging and perhaps the most beautiful. As with most races, I had a game plan going into it with my goals being simply to finish under the cut-off time as well as not “bonk” nor fall. All was accomplished this time. Bonus was getting to meet people from all over the country who came out for this race, especially Austin and Jenna from Chicago. They chose a tough way to see the natural…

Sunday

I’m preparing to run another 50-kilometer trail race near Bend, Oregon, in mid-October. With this coming up, I have been slowly working on increasing my running mileage and the variety of terrain I run on. So . . . today, I left the house in the dark and ran the 4.6 miles up to the top of Spencer Butte, then came down and ran on the Ridgeline Trail to the end and finally down the roads back home. It was a beautiful morning to be out. Images are from today, except for the cinnamon roll I purchased at the Great Harvest Bread Company in town yesterday. It was shared and was delicious. Snowy run

It is one of my favorite places to run around here and access is not far from our house. I woke up today to snow on the ground and a running friend and I decided to go out anyways. We headed into the South Hills, up onto the Ridgeline Trail and to the top of Mt. Baldy where the photos below were taken. It was a lovely morning to be out (well, I like this kind of weather – I know it…

The Long Run . . . .

Posted on April 3, 2021

I ran today – a good long run – I was out for 16 miles. I’ve been doing the RunHub store’s training program for the Eugene Marathon / Half Marathon (I’m in the Half group). Today was our longest run before race day, the 25th of April. It was a beautiful morning to be out, the town FULL of runners, including many college running teams in town for the first Track & Field meet at the new Hayward Field. When they pass me, it feels like I am walking. They are good. I stopped and snapped this shot near my turnaround point near Dorris Ranch park. Lovely trail & lovely spot. I finished my run at the Provisions coffee shop near home, so I…
