Nature of Gratitude

Posted on November 25, 2024

My friend Tom and his friend Eric started hosting a two hour event called the Nature of Gratitude which includes poetry reading, prose reading, music and a theme. This year’s theme was actually “Gratitude,” and the event was last weekend. It was lovely, of course. Always is . . . . It was a packed house! I took some time to go to the used instrument store this past weekend to look at guitars. While there I saw two Dusty Strings folk harps (not pictured), which is where I worked for several years after college in the late 80s and early 90s. Halloween & post event(s)

Posted on November 3, 2024

Nora and I carved pumpkins and roasted the seeds. Halloween evening was a nice, calm evening with several trick-or-treaters stopping by . . . . on Saturday I took Jonah up to Corvallis so he could take the SAT exam and I walked through some lovely neighborhoods as well as found a great coffee shop where I read my books. Went to a local farm to get some pumpkins with Nora yesterday. Orange and sunlight and shadows. Afterwards we went for a coffee drink and the barista made this, unprompted. Quite lovely and, well, seasonal. We are giving the house a bit of a facelift, including a new fir pergola in the back area. We will have pavers instead of cracked cement as the porch, which will help with the expansive clay soil that the house sits on. The front entryway is also…

New time zone? Game Day & Pisgah

Posted on October 14, 2024

This weekend I think I moved to Eastern Standard Time as Jonah and I got up at 2:00 am to get to ESPN’s “College Game Day” broadcast, which was held on the UO campus. Then the next day, I got up early again to head back to Mt. Pisgah for my long run. Yes, I am tired. Game Day in the early hours That is the band way back there near the Lillis College of Business. We were near the front of one of the side-stages. Here they are talking with the UO head coach, Dan Lanning. We both found it fascinating to watch how everything was coordinated and timed. The segments shown on TV gave the people a break and the support staff…
