Iceland, London, Paris & others

Posted on July 10, 2026

Sara and Nora are on a trip now to Iceland, London and Paris. A few picture of this are here, along with some classics (standards?). Airport drop-off. The bags were sized to fit for flying Iceland Air as they are fairly strict about carry-on luggage sizes. Sara hasn’t been to Europe since the 90s and Nora has never been . . . a good time is being had! A rainbow street with Nora on the green in Reykjavik . . . A home run ball that we left the ballpark for (that is the left field fence) in Keizer, Oregon on our way home from Portland. The league is called the Maverick League and there are 4 teams that play in this league and…

Tonight I’ll sing my songs again, I’ll play the game and pretend . . .

The impetus for this trip was because of an off-handed comment I made to my friend Kurt. I said that I’d sure like to see Paul Simon someday, but that I knew he was getting older, too. I figured that it likely would not happen. Well, Kurt offered to take me to see him. In Copenhagen, Denmark. I just had to get there. So I went. This is the final post of the trip. It was a lovely 9 days in Scandinavia and hopefully not my last trip there. Taking the “bridge” & tunnel from Malmo to Copenhagen. Some good old “leading lines,” as my high-school photography teacher would have said. I always find it strange to drive under the water. After we arrived…

Hop on the bus, Gus – there’s no need to discuss much . . .

Heading further south from Stockholm, on our way to Malmo, we stopped on Oland Island. On the north end of the island is a national park and the southern end is a United Nations World Heritage Site. We headed south and enjoyed the beauty of the place. A short hike took us through fields of these beautiful purple flowers. On our way to the end of the island, we came across a group of deer. Reindeer? Not sure, but they were out and about. The fields and stone walls and churches were beautiful. The lighthouse at the end of the island, known as “Big John.” There was a lovely little bakery, cafe and a museum. I found the museum exhibits to be unique and…

I’ve reason to believe we both will be received in Graceland . . .

More images and thoughts on Sweden . . . . There were many of these EV Volkswagen vans throughout Stockholm . . .. One more! This is one of the food trucks in action from the earlier post. There is something efficient about these vehicles when they are out and about doing their “job.” And of course the Abba Museum. There was also an IKEA museum in another part of Sweden that we unfortunately did not make it to (I would have enjoyed that). This is the Vassa ship at the Vassa Museum. It’s a bit of a long story, but the Cliff’s Notes version is that it sank in the harbor and they pulled it up and have been “restoring” (my word) it…

Hello, darkness, my old friend . . . .

Most of the photos were taken either after dark or before sunrise because during the first day of being in Stockholm my sleep was a bit messed up. But I did not hesitate to get out for a walk early in the morning and take some photos. See below: Stockholm is an archipelago, which loosely means that it is a cluster or group of islands. These islands are connected with bridges so getting around them is fairly easy. Also because they are islands there are boats. Old buildings and lots of boats. Beautiful in the early morning light. This was a small dock that I found at 4:30 in the morning, along a canal. The setting was peaceful and beautiful and provided me a…
