4 games in 2 days

Jonah and I went to four baseball games in two days last week . . .it was A LOT of baseball, a lot of driving, BUT we did have a great time. The itinerary was leave Eugene at 5:00 am and drive to Tacoma, Washington to see a day game involving the AAA level Tacoma Rainiers. The Rainiers are affiliated with the Seattle Mariners. Then when that day game concluded, we drove to Seattle, about 30 miles away, to catch a Mariners game. My brother joined us which was fantastic. We then ferried across the water and stayed with family on Bainbridge Island for a quick night of sleep (like 5 to 6 hours total) and then got up and did the exact reverse…

Early July covers some things . . .

A lot has happened in early July: we attended the Savanah Bananas baseball entertainment event, went to the Prefontaine Classic Track Meet, volunteered at the Butte-To-Butte run and saw an impressive drone show following the first night of the track meet. The Savanah Bananas were, to my mind, meant to be akin to the Harlem Globetrotters basketball, but with baseball as the sport. It was “played” in the football stadium as well and it was loud . . . 90 decibals for most of the event. Was it worth it? April, come she will . . . .

“April, come she will . . . .” A few photos from recent things going on. A week from now, though, I’ll be in Stockholm, Sweden, meeting up with my friend Kurt as we head south to Copenhagen to attend a concert being performed by Paul Simon. I’ve always enjoyed his music and am very much looking forward to this show. I just finished listening to the audio book that Malcolm Gladwell did called, “Miracle and Wonder: Conversations with Paul Simon.” Some of my earliest childhood memories are hearing Simon and Garfunkel being played on the radio in the house I grew up in, too. Paul Simon is such an amazing and dynamic creator and artist. Plus meatballs in Sweden. And whatever else happens…

Symmetry & Time

Symmetry: The baseball season is ending around here as is the heat of summer. Baseball has a symmetry to it: 9 innings, 3 outs per half inning, 3 sets of 3 innings, 27 outs, 90 feet between bases. A lazy, easy, relaxed nature where the players don’t conquer space but work to “go home.” A game where the defense starts with the ball; where tension and release is built in on every pitch. It’s a beautiful game, really. Time: Taking a day out to run over ten miles in the woods around waterfalls with a friend you’ve known for over 40 years is a good way to spend time. I hope everyone has the blessing of a friendship that lasts a good long time.…

Florida – 2025

I recently spent 10 days in Florida as a graduation trip for Jonah’s high school graduation, doing the things that are important and of solid interest to Jonah. I managed to sneak in a few things for myself (wildlife, running, etc.), which were also good fun. It was a great trip overall. I missed topography. I enjoyed the wildlife, people, and food, and sometimes even the warmth. Home now and back to life in the northwest. This will be several posts as I go through the photos.
