A weekend in mid-June

Posted on June 16, 2025

It was a whirlwind of a weekend getting Nora to her cousin’s place and Jonah on a flight to Pennsylvania. First, though, was baseball and a walk through the Bellevue Botanical Gardens (a gem of a place where I must spend more time). We arrived early enough to watch batting practice through the fence. Upper deck seats in the outfield show the ballpark’s symmetry. The Mariners played the Cleveland Guardians and the game we went to ended up with a Mariner’s win in the bottom of the 9th with “walk-off” dramatics. My brother came along which made for a lovely evening. The next morning before meeting up with my stepmom, I had some time so I stopped at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens where I…

Early morning & score

Posted on February 17, 2025

Ran early Saturday – long run – about 14 miles. I’ll double that in a month . . . plus went to the opening weekend of Ducks baseball. Slushy trail up on the Ridgeline Trail just south of town. I fell for baseball after being in Europe for a number of months in 1992. When I returned to the states, I learned to keep score and have been doing so ever since. The chicken scratch tells a story of a game and is fun to do. This book goes back several years now and it’s fun to look back on it each time I take it to a game to keep score.

An early October Sunday

Spent the morning running out at Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, one of my favorite places. I ran 8.2 miles with 2100 feet of elevation gain (and loss) over two hours. There was fog in the lowlands starting before dark, but the top was clear, and the sunrise was beautiful. I did a “double summit,” where I ran down the backside and back up to the top before finally descending to the car. Then Jonah and I went to a free U of O exhibition baseball game: nice day and a lovely Fall. Headlamp in the fog Sunrise with the Oregon Cascade range in the distance. A bit later, heading down the back side of Mt. Pisgah. It was a quiet, cool, and beautiful morning to…

Weekend in Seattle – Blue Angels Edition

Posted on August 7, 2024

Part of Jonah’s birthday this year was a trip up to Seattle to go to the Museum of Flight, along with attending a baseball game against the Mariners and the Phillies, two of our favorite teams. Jonah also suggested we go see the Everett Aquasox minor league team play against our hometown team, the Eugene Emeralds, too. Given that Everett is 30 minutes north of Seattle we decided to add that to the agenda and had a blast of a weekend. Bonus? It was the annual Seafair celebration, which included an air show featuring the Blue Angels. The Boeing Museum of Flight is located at Boeing Field which is where the Blue Angels take off and return to after their aerial acrobatics. The Blue…

Late July (not the chips)

Back to work and doing stuff with family and friends . . . photos below . . This was a customer’s MacBook Pro with a swollen battery. Yikes. It was replaced. 🙂 A baseball game with tickets provided by Sara’s work. The photo was a slight surprise . . . Jonah’s robotics team was presenting their robot, “Marvin,” at the Eugene Asian Celebration at Alton Baker Park this past weekend. Here are few of the South Eugene Robotics Team (SERT) kids being silly on a break . . . . Clouds over the valley from my morning run to the top of Spencer Butte. It was a rare cool day in Eugene for July. We’ve had a couple of them now, but we are…
