2025

Posted on January 3, 2025

End the year and the start of a new one. A few photos and an updated Now page: Cinnamon rolls, pre-baked. They were excellent, as always! We hit the climbing gym for a day and wore ourselves out. It was good fun though! What could be more fun than dying your Mom’s hair? Sara was a good sport about it all . . . . And then this . . . . Became this . . . . a Concord jet from Legos A rainy New Year’s Day run out on Pre’s Trail. I found this amusing is all. Happy New Year and welcome 2025 . . . !

Solstice

Posted on December 23, 2024

One of my two running groups, the UO Noon Runners, has been doing a “Solstice Run” for years, and this Saturday was the event. We all meet at a predetermined time and run to the top of Mt. Pisgah to ring in the solstice, preferably at the exact moment of the Solstice. This year was slightly different because the main trail to the top of Pisgah was closed due to construction. So we met at a place called “Swing Hill,” where a swing allows one to see the expanse of the Willamette Valley. I ran early with John and Tim. We did a loop from the east parking lot to the summit and then met the group at the north lot for the run/hike…

Jeffrey Foucault

Posted on November 12, 2024

This weekend I drove north to see perhaps my favorite musician play two shows in two nights. Jeffrey Foucault fell on my radar a bit over 20 years ago when he opened up for Peter Mulvey. I bought his CD after the show and chatted a bit, and I have seen him many times since. His new album, The Universal Fire, was released recently, and Jeffrey and his band were doing the album release West Coast tour. There’s a lot I could say, but will post a couple of photos. Great shows, great bandmates and musicians and a lovely fall weekend. The band. Jeffrey singing, Erik Koskinen on the electric guitar, Jeremy Moses Curtis on bass, Don McCauley on drums, and Eric Heywood on…

Halloween & post event(s)

Posted on November 3, 2024

Nora and I carved pumpkins and roasted the seeds. Halloween evening was a nice, calm evening with several trick-or-treaters stopping by . . . . on Saturday I took Jonah up to Corvallis so he could take the SAT exam and I walked through some lovely neighborhoods as well as found a great coffee shop where I read my books. Finally, today, I ran the Silver Falls Half Marathon, which I have done before (2018). It was a fun day today and I ran well I thought. I came in 5th in my new age group (60-64) out of 20. Which I know does not really mean anything other than who shows up, but showing up is half the battle, as I understand. It…

New time zone? Game Day & Pisgah

Posted on October 14, 2024

This weekend I think I moved to Eastern Standard Time as Jonah and I got up at 2:00 am to get to ESPN’s “College Game Day” broadcast, which was held on the UO campus. Then the next day, I got up early again to head back to Mt. Pisgah for my long run. Yes, I am tired. Game Day in the early hours That is the band way back there near the Lillis College of Business. We were near the front of one of the side-stages. Here they are talking with the UO head coach, Dan Lanning. We both found it fascinating to watch how everything was coordinated and timed. The segments shown on TV gave the people a break and the support staff…
