PodMod

My brother-in-law, Ricky, has been playing around with turning old iPod Video units into stand-alone devices with flash memory (SD cards in this case). He made one for me recently and now I have a 500 gig iPodMod ready to go. In my quest for devices that do just one thing, I can add this to the stack. The New Wilderness (Idle Words): This requires us to talk about a different kind of privacy, one that we haven’t needed to give a name to before. For the purposes of this essay, I’ll call it ‘ambient privacy’—the understanding that there is value in having our everyday interactions with one another remain outside the reach of monitoring, and that the small details of our daily lives should pass by unremembered.
