June = graduation, running, & family

Posted on June 13, 2025

June has struck! We have a graduate and I’ve been running a good bit lately in a local trail series. This will come to an end near the end of the month as travel ensues for a bit. Jonah graduated from South Eugene High School last week! It was a good ceremony and now summer is here . . . My brother, Jonah’s Uncle Larry, came down from Seattle for the events. It was good to have him with us for these several days. I’ve been running in the Emerald City Trail Series again this year up on and near Mt. Pisgah. The races are on Thursday evenings, with distances as short as 3.7 miles and as long as 8 miles. Once again, they…

Bruce

Posted on March 3, 2025

Yesterday, Nora and I went to see Bruce Cockburn with our friends Daniel and Jerri. Daniel is a photographer who is friends with Bruce and invited us to attend the sound check before the show. It was, as it has been in the past, a real treat to be present with an artist that I have loved for a long time. Bruce’s guitar playing has been my inspiration towards my own playing and his music I find beautiful. After the show were were able to go back stage to the green room and hang out with him for a bit. There’s something wonderful about being able to shake hands with an artist whose work has touched you deeply, look them in the eyes, and…

Swing the axe . . .

Some photos from an exhibit by Professor David Buckley Borden. Last year he did a set of images that were quite striking and this year the same has been done. David created some fictitious axe advertisements that I found quite beautiful.

Jeffrey Foucault

Posted on November 12, 2024

This weekend I drove north to see perhaps my favorite musician play two shows in two nights. Jeffrey Foucault fell on my radar a bit over 20 years ago when he opened up for Peter Mulvey. I bought his CD after the show and chatted a bit, and I have seen him many times since. His new album, The Universal Fire, was released recently, and Jeffrey and his band were doing the album release West Coast tour. There’s a lot I could say, but will post a couple of photos. Great shows, great bandmates and musicians and a lovely fall weekend. The band. Jeffrey singing, Erik Koskinen on the electric guitar, Jeremy Moses Curtis on bass, Don McCauley on drums, and Eric Heywood on…

Train to Minneapolis – 4

Posted on June 4, 2024

This is the final installment of our trip from two weeks ago. It has less train and more friends, wedding and Minneapolis. I have to say that the city / cities felt very manageable – quite walkable and driveable. Our lyft drivers were super friendly and having Patrick as a guide for a few hours was fantastic. Photos and comments below . . . . Minnehaha Falls, near where my brother-in-law David lives. Beautiful, cool, green space. Heading to the wedding! Brother David and dog Edith (Edie) Solidly good pup – kind, gentle and funny. They take care of each other. An uncle and a neice, posing. The weather was a nice mid-70s temperature – just right to lure one into contemplating living there.…
