Summer Fade . . .

I took the last two days of the summer work season off to do some chores (clean garage!) and go to the UO Cross Country Dellinger Invitational Meet. It was a good couple of days as the final days of heat ended and the fall storms rolled in off the Pacific. I am moss, lichen, salmon, grey clouds, wool, flannel, plaid and waxed canvas. I look forward to this change so much each year and it rarely disappoints. The meet was run on a golf course out in Springfield, just east of Eugene. It was a beautiful day with several colleges and universities represented. The men run an 8k race and the women run a 6k race. It’s all anaerobic in the end. Impressive.…

Pamelia Lake & Grizzly Peak

The following are photos from the trip that Nora and I take each year, (which we did this past weekend) to Pamelia Lake and Grizzly Peak in the Jefferson Wilderness Area. We lucked out in terms of smoke as it wasn’t present until we left on Sunday morning. A backpacker is ready to go! Down the trail towards the lake. Our tent by Hyperlight Mountain Gear. It is light, too, weighing in at 29 ounces. We learned a few years back that hanging food was necessary. Independence Day & Bodies in Space

Independence Day went like a fast-moving bottle rocket, without the bottle or the rocket for me. The day started with the annual Butte-to-Butte 10k road race that takes people from the south end of town to the north, running between the boundaries of the two buttes: Spencer and Skinner. This year, rather than run, I volunteered as a “course marshal,” where I stand with a stop sign to block a cross street and prevent cars from crossing the route. I enjoyed seeing many people I knew and cheering them on. Then last evening, I had the chance to attend the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field with seats on the finish line. It has been over a month since I updated my site, which is not what I intended to do when I revived it a few months ago. However, life has been, as can be seen in this post, full. Here we go: Sara won an award! I am fairly quiet in terms of my spouse, Sara, but this one, to me, deserves a shout-out. She was the recipient of the 2023 Nursing Excellence award in the “Innovator” category. She has a detailed way of thinking about things and noticed processes that could be improved in terms of the day-to-day work that she does as a nurse at the local hospital. Seattle/Bellevue Travel & Robots

This post has more photos than usual, all taken with the trusty orange GM-1. The bridge that crosses the Columbia River is one that I have been traversing since I was a kid and we would come from Seattle to visit my grandmother in Portland. When we were little we nicknamed this “Goofy Grandma’s Bridge,” after her. It still stands and still works, though there is talk of a different one taking its place one day. The town I grew up in, Bellevue, was transformed by the high-tech industry with Microsoft’s campus being just one town over.
