The Long Run . . . .

I ran today – a good long run – I was out for 16 miles. I’ve been doing the RunHub store’s training program for the Eugene Marathon / Half Marathon (I’m in the Half group). Today was our longest run before race day, the 25th of April. It was a beautiful morning to be out, the town FULL of runners, including many college running teams in town for the first Track & Field meet at the new Hayward Field. awakened early – 2:00 am-ish to the sound of rain and wind tapping the window & pushing on the walls. Went to the front porch area and stepped to this: we live on bashaw clay soil here – expansive clay – which has a whole host of issues for a cement slab house such as ours. the big oak tree out front still stands, even as the ground becomes saturated by these rains and the water runs off towards amazon creek. when it rains and blows I wonder if it’ll come down but so far, nope. and whew.

Pamelia Lake & Grizzly Peak

Below are some images from the Jefferson Wilderness Area, formerly just Jefferson National Forest. My daughter and I hiked here this past weekend to see where my father worked as a fire lookout back in the summer of 1947. He is in the top left photo and his cabin and the lake are also there, too. The cabin and the lookout that was at the top of Grizzly Peak are no longer there, but the area looks very much the same as when he was there 76 years ago.
