US Track and Field Olympic Trials

I’ve been volunteering at the US Track and Field Olympic Trials these past couple of days and will do so for two more shifts. I’m in the Media / Communications area, which so far just means passing out infield vests to photographers. Still, it is fun to be there. Some of the photos I’ve taken are below. The high-jump landing area and the Eiffel Tower replica as this year’s games are in Paris. We had seats on the first row of the third turn and enjoyed several running events throughout the evening. Summer Fade . . .

I took the last two days of the summer work season off to do some chores (clean garage!) and go to the UO Cross Country Dellinger Invitational Meet. It was a good couple of days as the final days of heat ended and the fall storms rolled in off the Pacific. I am moss, lichen, salmon, grey clouds, wool, flannel, plaid and waxed canvas. I look forward to this change so much each year and it rarely disappoints. The meet was run on a golf course out in Springfield, just east of Eugene. It was a beautiful day with several colleges and universities represented. The men run an 8k race and the women run a 6k race. It’s all anaerobic in the end. Impressive.…

Independence Day & Bodies in Space

Independence Day went like a fast-moving bottle rocket, without the bottle or the rocket for me. The day started with the annual Butte-to-Butte 10k road race that takes people from the south end of town to the north, running between the boundaries of the two buttes: Spencer and Skinner. This year, rather than run, I volunteered as a “course marshal,” where I stand with a stop sign to block a cross street and prevent cars from crossing the route. I enjoyed seeing many people I knew and cheering them on. Then last evening, I had the chance to attend the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field with seats on the finish line.
