Looking forward, looking back

Rain falls, again. The Good Rain. After a stretch of days with high pressure and cold temps, the weather turns once again. Also, a photo from an earlier era of my life when I worked at Dusty Strings Company, making hammered dulcimers and harps, working retail and doing other such things. This was one of the best places I have ever worked. I went from an insurance company to Dusty Strings where I could wear shorts and a t-shirt to work and it was only 5 blocks from where I lived. Good place, great people, surrounded daily by music and musicians. Early morning today on campus. Sun is coming up, leaves are scattered, ground is wet. Maybe I can be found in this wonderful…

Thanks 2023

A few snaps from the past few days – we had a nice time with a lot of down time, so Wii Switch playing, Taylor Swift Monopoly, reading and such. Cold and foggy and clear outside, which lends to some good running days. Nora found the idea on Pinterest and spent a few hours making up the game board. It was fun! The main rule is that the when a property is being purchased, the song that the property is named after must be played. Good times were had. 🙂 Met these fellas on my run on Thanksgiving Day. Hopefully they were not too nervous . . . A lot of chopping is required to make Emerald City Salad, but it is a favorite…

Timberjack 50k Trail Run

Posted on October 15, 2023

Yesterday I ran my second 50k trail race, this one being over near Bend, Oregon close to the Three Sisters Mountains. It was a long and generally speaking beautiful day. The running part was challenging for me, especially after mile 23. I figured it would be difficult, but not that difficult. Of course once you start one of these things you can’t really stop in the middle so I just kept going. Photos with some commentary below: The milling around before the race starts. This is always a strange time with everyone showing up, training completed, often goals in mind, some people know one another, but many don’t. It’s a nice time to say hello to a stranger, ask where they are from and…

Summer Fade . . .

Posted on September 27, 2023

I took the last two days of the summer work season off to do some chores (clean garage!) and go to the UO Cross Country Dellinger Invitational Meet. It was a good couple of days as the final days of heat ended and the fall storms rolled in off the Pacific. I am moss, lichen, salmon, grey clouds, wool, flannel, plaid and waxed canvas. I look forward to this change so much each year and it rarely disappoints. The meet was run on a golf course out in Springfield, just east of Eugene. It was a beautiful day with several colleges and universities represented. The men run an 8k race and the women run a 6k race. It’s all anaerobic in the end. Impressive.…

Seattle Thanks 2022 part 1

Sara was scheduled to work this past weekend, so I took the kids up to her sister’s place for Thanksgiving. We had a lovely time as I hope is captured by some of the photos I managed to take. I’m *still* exploring the GM-1 and these were shot with that camera. Fall is still there these days as can be seen below: Bay Hay and Feed on Bainbridge Island Hanging out with some uncles . . .
